Hydrocolloid dressing is a specialized wound care solution used in the treatment of mildly exuding wounds, such as minor burns or bed sores. These dressings are waterproof and provide a moist, insulating environment to significantly promote wound healing.

The inner layer consists of gel-forming agents (carboxymethylcellulose, gelatin, and pectin) that absorb exudate—drainage made of water, white blood cells, and proteins. This allows for faster healing and reduced scar formation. The outside layer, made of polyurethane film, shields the wound from bacteria and debris. These dressings can be left in place for up to a week, making them convenient and reducing the frequency of changes.
